The workshop funded by the Pakistan Academy of
Sciences and University of Karachi, was held as
part of the academic and research programs of
the UNESCO Chair in
Sustainable Halophyte Utilization, University
of Karachi.
Prof. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, VC,
University of Karachi hosted the occasion and
Prof. Dr. M. Qaiser, VC Federal Urdu University
of Arts, Science and Technology was the Chief
Guest.
Prof. Muhammad Ajmal Khan, Director ISHU highlighted
the importance of the workshop which was focused
on recent advances in halophyte research - highly
salt tolerant plants growing in salt affected
lands. The aim of the workshop was to discuss
ways to harness the economic potential of this
special group of plants. Speakers included experts
in plant physiology, ecology and molecular biology
both from Pakistan and abroad.
