Biography |
Dr. Abdul Hameed is an Associate Professor at the Dr. Muhammad Ajmal
Khan Institute of Sustainable Halophyte Utilization (MAK-ISHU),
University of Karachi, Pakistan. He obtained his PhD from the University
of Karachi in 2012 under supervision of late Prof. Dr. M. Ajmal Khan
(S.I.) and completed a Fulbright postdoctoral fellowship at Brigham
Young University, USA, during 2021–2022.
His research specialization lies in plant eco-physiology, with a
focus on the seed germination ecology and reactive oxygen species
(ROS) homeostasis of halophytes inhabiting coastal sabkhas and
inland hypersaline environments.
The objectives of Dr. Hameed's research include: (i) generating
essential baseline information to facilitate mass-scale cultivation of
halophytes using direct seeding techniques such as seed priming for
agronomic and conservation purposes; (ii) dissecting the mechanisms of
salinity tolerance in halophytes with particular emphasis on redox and
chemical signaling; and (iii) enhancing the salinity tolerance of
commercially valuable halophyte crop candidates by way of enhancing
their antioxidant defense.
Dr. Hameed has published extensively on these topics in peer-
reviewed journals and has also edited books on halophyte biology
and their economic potentials. To explore his most recent work, an
updated list of his publications can be found on
Google Scholar

ResearchGate.
